A new display technology like true tone was included in this version compared to the older spec. True toning is for the white balance adjustment in order to match the ambient lighting in the room and support wide colour for vivid, true to life colours. Comparing the display to the mini 4, this is 25 percent brighter. There is not much design changes, compare to the previous mini, thick bezels at the top and the bottom plus slimmer size bezels.

It is 6.1mm thick, almost the same as the iPad air, it’s thicker than pro but thinner than iPad. There are various colours of space grey, silver and gold. It has a touch ID home button for biometric authentication and a headphone jack. It charges via lighting unlike the pro spec, which charges through USB – C.

Equipped with an A12 bionic chip, this is Apple’s latest chip used in the iPhone, it’s 3x faster with 9x faster graphic. An all-day battery in other words lasting up to 10 hours depending on the task, the pencil is a new feature for the latest mini, has no smart connector and no matching smart keyboard. The camera is like the previous model, f/2.8 mega pixel camera with no rear flash and 1080p video recording. An improvement to the 7 mega pixel camera just like the iPad air. The mini has:

  • Two speakers for stereo output

IPad mini 5 Review – DISPLAY

A fully laminated multi touch 7.9-inch display with 2048 x 1536 resolution at 326 pixels per inch. This is the highest pixel density of any of the models. The brightness is at 500 nits, which makes it 5.25 percent brighter than the mini 4. There’s an antireflective coating for 1.8 percent reflectivity plus an oleophobic coating that protects the display from fingerprints. A vivid colour true to life us produced by the P3 wide colour gamut.

The white balance of the display is adjusted by true tone which matches the ambient lighting in the room. The display is not strenuous on the eyes, especially in dimly lit rooms or outdoors and more also because of right adjustment to the blue tint.

APPLE PENCIL

This model is compatible with the first-generation pencil, the model with the lighting connector at the end. A designed stylus that offers unparalleled precision and integration that offers the sensation of a paper and a pencil. A range of motion is detected by the pencil because of the inbuilt pressure and position sensor, for drawing and writing. At the tip of the pencil are two tilt sensors to determine the orientation and angle for holding in order to use the edge of the tip for shading. The battery will last up to 12 hours.

A12 BIONIC CHIP

Apple iPad Air 2019 – Design

The iPad air 2 was on the top of the chart back in 2014 and was replaced with the pro specs, now that air model is back topping the chart again with the aim of replacing the 10.5-inch iPad pro which was still on sale with the release of the air. The older pro was replaced by the air, in other words the 10.5-inch pro was recycled to produce the 2019 iPad air. It’s identical in size and thickness to the iPad pro just slightly lighter and features:

  • Same slimmest design
  • Tapered side and wide top and bottom bezels that houses the front camera and ID home button

The air is different because older design was made with thicker bezels and different from the 2018 pro models that has edge to edge display with slimmer bezels and no home button. It features a lighting port at the bottom for charging instead of USB – C like the iPad pro models. The dual speakers can be found at the bottom and the back has a single lens camera with no flash., located at the top is the sleep/wake button and the up and down volume.

Touch ID

Apple iPad air 2019 has a touch ID home button for biometric authentication purposes, the same as the one in the 9.7-inch iPad. If you prefer touch ID as compared to face ID, you might want to consider this iPad compared to the pro models for this reason. Touch ID can be used to unlock, access apps and make transactions with Apple pay.

Smart Connector

The smart connector on the left side was designed to work in conjunction with the new smart keyboard released with the new air.

Apple iPad Air 2019 – Display

  • It features the same multi-colour fully laminated display
  • Resolution is 2224 x 1668 at 264 pixels per inch, does not feature promotion technology
  • 500 nits brightness and 1.8 percent reflectivity due to anti reflective coating
  • Fingerprint resistance oleophobic to prevent fingerprints
  • Touch sensor, cover glass and LCD are combined to reduce the thickness
  • LCD layer is closer to the eyes for a better-quality experience
  • Supports P3 wide colour gamut for rich, vivid colours that are life and accurate, ideal for artists.
  • White balance adjustments by true tone to match the ambient lighting for easy viewing
  • Avoid stark contrasts between colours and the lighting in the room.

 Apple Pencil

The pencil is included which means the pencil works with most models, the air is compatible with the first-generation pencil, the model with the lighting connector at the end. It won’t work with the second-generation Apple pencil introduced in the release of the pro models.

Apple iPad Air 2019 – A12 Bionic Chip

  • The A12 bionic chip is the same used for 2018 iPhone line up
  • Clocked at 2.4 GHz, same as the iPhone A12 chip
  • The performance is like iPhone XR, XS and XS max.
  • A12, offers boost performance and twice graphics capability due to 4 – core graphic engine.

  • And more

The neural engine was opened in 2018 to its core ML platform, this offer developers the opportunities to take advantage of the real time learning features in their apps. The A12 bionic power faster detection of the AR surfaces for the rear and front camera and good 3D gaming experiences.

RAM

It has a 3GB RAM, 1GB more than the 9.7 inch and 1GB less than the pros. This is also the same amount of RAM in the iPhone XR.

Cameras

  • An 8 mega pixel rear camera with f/2.4 aperture, the same with the 9.7-inch iPad. It supports:
  • Live photos
  • Auto HDR
  • 43 megapixels panoramas
  • Burst mode
  • Time mode
  • Captures 1080p HD video at 30 frames per seconds
  • 720p slow – motion video at 120 frames per seconds

Apple iPad Air 2019 – Battery Life

The battery is meant to last for about 10 hours, which is termed an all-day battery, although this depends mainly on usage.

Smart Keyboard

Apart from the on-screen keyboard, the hardware solution is also available known as the smart keyboard that works with the smart connector on the side. The keyboard was made of a woven fabric which is laser ablated to the shape of each key with a soft feel. The keyboard maintains a thin size of 4mm due to the tension provided by the fabric and because of less needs for traditional hardware.

The keyboard has no wires or components, but a thin sheet of nylon etched with metal inside the two layers of the accessories, this serves as the base conductive material for a two-way flow of power. If not in use, it serves as a cover for the iPad. If use as a keyboard, Apple iPad air 2019 has a portion that folds into a triangle for the iPad to rest on and can also be folded up behind for better views.

In conclusion

The frame is lighter and less expensive than the stainless-steel frame of the XS. The glass back phones could easily crack or break if drop on the floor especially therefore be careful.

Water and Dust Resistance

It’s IP67 water and dust resistance in other words, it’s immune from dust and will survive immersion in water of up to one metre (3.3 feet) deep for 30 minutes in laboratory conditions. Even though the phone has a high-level resistance to splashes, rain and accidental exposure to water, intentional exposure must be avoided at all cost. Apple’s warranty does not cover water damage to IOS devices so be careful when around liquids.

Display

The LCD features several technological advancements which makes it larger than ever and regarded it as the most advanced LCD in a smart phone. Apple says there were new innovations for pixel antialiasing and pixel masking to extend the display to the edges of the device. LEDs that fit into smaller spaces than ever before were used plus a new backlight design to enlarge display and reach the corners of the phone.

Haptic Touch

The haptic touch option replaced the 3D touch feature, the company says this is similar to the haptic track pad in the MacBook Pro. The 3D touch is available throughout the IOS 12 operating system and is often used to display more information through a force press gesture. This feature is not available via the haptic touch, but the haptic touch provides feedback when pressing the camera icon forcefully on the lock screen

There’s a rumour that the 3D touch will be eliminated on future handsets and most likely be replaced by the haptic touch option in the iPhone XR. Apple might also have a plan to add more features to the haptic touch.

A12 Bionic Processor

This bionic processor can harness all six cores at once when a power boost is required. Functionalities are divided across the core through a new controller for the best performance and battery life. The A12 bionic produces faster detection of AR surfaces for the rear camera, better AR experiences for the front camera as well, immersive 3D gaming and faster face ID.

Face ID and True Depth Camera System

The introduction of the iPhone X in 2017 came with it the face ID. This is the biometric verification system used in the iPhone XR. It features a notch housing true depth camera system that enables face ID.

●        Face ID is the same thing as touch ID excepts:

●        It uses a facial scan instead of a finger print.

●        It’s the same as iPhone X with better performance.

●        Face ID can detect your face and unlock your device faster because of the new A12 bionic chip and neutral engine improvements.

●        Face ID is used across the IOS operating system for tasks such as unlocking the phone.

●        It gives access to third party passcode protected apps.

The True Depth, camera has a set of sensors which the face ID works through. If you want to create a facial scan, a Dot projects more than 30,000 invincible infrared dots onto your face and then read by an infrared camera. The depth map on your face is repaid to the A12 bionic processor and then transformed into a mathematical model, the phone uses this to ensure you’re trying to access your phone.

Face ID has no problem functioning to the ultimate in dark or dim light areas because of the infrared and a built in floor illuminator. They provide adequate light to the facial scan, face ID works with:

●        Hats

●        Beards

●        Glasses

●        Shades

●        Scarves

●        Make up

●        And all other accessories

Face ID and Security Privacy

Face ID cannot be fooled by a photo mask or other facial imitation because of a detailed 3D facial scan. Face ID allows you to unlock your device through an “Attention Aware” security feature, your device will unlock only when you look in the direction of your phone with your eyes open. This feature will work when:

●        Asleep.

●        Unconscious.

●        Eyes closed.

●        Look away from your phone.

You’re able to turn off the attention aware just in case you’re unable to focus on the phone’s screen. Most prefer to turn it on because of added security. The Attention Aware feature knows when you’re looking at your phone. Face ID displays notification and messages on the lock screen when looking at the phone, therefore lights the screen and lowers the volume automatically.

You’ll be glad to know that Face ID data is encrypted and stored in a secured enclaved on your phone. Authentication is only effective on the phone, Face ID data are not stored anywhere in the cloud nor uploaded to Apple. Third Parties developers do not have access to the facial map that face IID requires to unlock the device.

There’s a 1 in 1,000,000 chances that someone might trick the Face, ID, research shows 1 in 500,000 with an alternate appearance registered with IOS 12. Face ID has been deceived by identical twins, carefully crafted mask. In spite of all of these, you don’t have to worry about your iPhone being unlocked easily by someone else.

Conclusion

You can’t go wrong with the superb screen design; the battery has the longest span among the iPhone models and a faster performance. The phone was made with the most durable front glass ever in a smartphone. Security is simplified if your face is your password, it’s the most secure facial authentication ever in a smartphone.

This cutting edge device provides the benefit of effortless high performance and comfort, thanks to an outstanding innovation. The secret behind this stunning device is the amazing design which provides much functionality with effortless power. The device offers an amazing feeling of comfort and control.

The iPad Pro 12.9 Review – Getting your Money Worth

In October 2018 the iPad pro was introduced to the tech world. It was an upgrade from the 11 – inch to 12.9 – inch iPad pro models.

Some of the upgrades are:

●        Edge to edge display that got rid of the home button.

●        Slim bezels all around.

●        True depth camera which enables face ID.

●        Works with Apple pencil 2.

●        A revamped keyboard.

IPad Pro 12.9 Review – Features

●        Available in silver and grey

The iPad pro 12.9 has adopted the iPhone Xs style design which comes with an edge to edge display, slim bezels and no home button. The home button was meant for navigation and biometric authentication. It features a camera system with Face ID which replaced the touch ID. The face ID is compatible with both portrait and landscape orientation.

The 10.5 – inch iPad pro was replaced by the 11-inch model which offers more display in body but still maintains the same size. The 12.9 inch has the same inch display, but with a smaller body of at least 25 percent less volume. The new models are thinner at 5.9 mm with the elimination of the headphone jack.

The 11 inch and 12.9-inch models have an imagined aluminium chassis with a flat rounded edge, a copycat of the iPhone SE which wraps around a new liquid retina display. This model as claimed by Apple has the most advanced display ever with:

●        A wide colour supports

●        True tone for adjustment to the ambient light

●        Pro motion 120Hz refresh technology

This model is equipped with an eight – core A12X bionic chip which offers 35 percent speed, faster than a single core performance. An up to 90 percent boost during multi – threaded tasks in comparison to previous models.

The GPU, which is a new seven core Apple design offers twice the graphic performance. Apple claims that this model is faster than 92 percent of portable PCs, despite the speed increase that battery will last for about 10 hours.

It comes with a next generation neutral engine which offers improved performance for Core ML tasks and augmented reality features. Most pro models come with 4GB RAM, the higher capacity 1TB models comes with 6GB RAM.

The iPad comes with a USB -C port instead of the lighting port. The USB – C port connects it to the USB – C accessories including 4K and 5K display. It can also be used to charge accessories like the iPhone and the Apple watch.

There’s a 12 – megapixel f/1.8 aperture camera at the back of the iPad pro 12.9 with:

●        Smart HDR

●        A quad – LED true tone flash

●        Wide colour

●        Supports for 4K video recording up to 60fps

This new version of iPad unfortunately does not support optical image stabilisation compare to the old versions, but uses auto image stabilisation. The front depth camera comes with a 7 – megapixel lens with support for:

●        Portrait mode

●        Portrait lighting

●        Animoji

●        Memoji

●        Smart HDR

You can connect the iPad pro 12.9 with a series of magnets to a second-generation Apple pencil that supports tab gestures, pairing and wireless charging. The new smart keyboard folio is also being sold with the iPad pro and Apple pencil.

IPad Pro 12.9 Review –  Design

●        The 11 – inch is 9.74 inches long and 7.02 inches wide.

●        The 12.9 – inch is 11.04 inches long and 8.46 inches wide. It’s an inch wider and taller compare to the previous model.

●        They share the same thickness of 5.9mm which is thinner than the previous 10.5- and 12.9-inches pro models.

●        The 10.5 inch was 6.1mm thick and the previous 12.9 was 6.9 mm thick, shows a major difference in the larger model.

●        The 12.9-inch model has lost a lot of weight and now weighs 1.39 pounds, while the 11 – inch still weighs 1.03 pounds.

This 2018 model is completely different from the 2017 model with the edge to edge display that eliminates the touch ID home button at the front. The bezels at the top and the bottom are slimmer resulting in a smaller 6mm bezel at the top, bottom and the sides.

Older versions of iPad are known for having smooth round edges that taper into the back, but the new comes with a flat industrial band around the sides, a copy cat design of the iPhone 4 or SE. The body is still made from aluminium in silver and space grey.

The sleep/wake button along with two speakers are located at the top. There is volume button, a magnetic connector and a Nano – SIM tray on cellular iPad. There’s a single lens camera at the back the protrude slightly from the body plus a smart microphone and a connector for the key folio accessories at the bottom. There’s a USB port and additional speakers. The true depth camera system enables face ID and a set of three microphones at the front bezel of the iPad.

IPad Pro 12.9 Review – No headphone jack

There was a headphone jack on previous models, but none with this model, this seems deliberate to produce a slimmer look and reduce the overall thickness and aligns it with the iPhone. Headphone jack were no longer available with the invention of iPhone 7 and the customers has since got used to it.

The blue tooth option is available instead or a USB – C headphones, to use 3.5mm headphones, you need an adapter from Apple. The adapter won’t allow you to charge while the headphone is in use because it uses the single USB – C port on the device.

USB – C PORT

The USB – C – port is for charging and accessory connection which replaced the lighting port. The iPad is connected to 4 or 5K displays via the USB – C devices. Apple said the USB – C – port supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 transfer speed. This port can also be used to charge the iPhone or Apple watch.

Navigating through the home button

The home button does not exist, there’s a new gesture for navigation, which is identical to the ones on some of the iPhones. Do a quick swipe from the bottom of the display to get to the home screen to bring up the app switcher. The upward swipe motion produces the iPad dock this allows you to access additional apps for multi-tasking.

The control centre appears if you swipe down on the right side at the top of the display and the lock screen/notification centre appears if you swipe from the left or centre. A left swipe displays today’s centre widgets.

IPad Pro 12.9 Review – Face ID and true depth camera system

The touch ID fingerprint was for authentication and unlocking in other versions but with this comes the face ID feature that debuted first in the iPhone x thereby unlocking your device via face recognition.

Face ID has the same features as touch ID such as unlocking the iPad, giving access to third party passcode protected apps, confirming purchases and authenticating Apple pay payments. The face ID operates through sensor and camera built into the top bezel of the iPad known as multi – component setup for the true depth camera. The scan of your face for authentication purposes is created via a dot projector which projects over 30,000 invisible infrared dots onto your face.

The infra-red camera reads the dot map on your face and the structure of your face is relayed to the A12X bionic processor and then transfer into a mathematical model. The scan takes few seconds to scan your face and recognise then unlock. Face ID is more secure than touch ID and cannot be fooled by face mask and other facial imitation.

The attention aware society protects an intruder because it has been programmed for facial recognition and only unlocks when your face appears on the screen. Face ID is stored in a secure enclave of the A12X chip after encryption. Data’s are not stored in the icloud, sent to Apple nor can it be accessed through the apps.

Face ID has no problem functioning in the dark, even when wearing sunglasses. A face that is partially obscured by:

●        Beards

●        Glasses

●        Make up

●        Scarves

●        Other accessories

Face recognition will still recognise you regarding the above factors. It also adapts to changes in your face, if you’re growing a beard or losing your hair, you have nothing to worry about. It works in both landscape and portrait orientation, this is a unique feature for this device. The face ID must be in the portrait mode on the iPhone to function.

Display

Display improvements are introduced with new innovations and the 2018 is no exception. Apple boast that the liquid retina “edge to edge” LCD in the 2018 pro model is the most advanced ever. The term liquid retina was first used for the LCD in the iPhone XR. Pro models use subpixel anti – aliasing for the rounded corners, individual pixels are fine tuned to produce smooth edges and also free from distortion.

Rich, vivid colours are produced through support from wide colours that are true to life and accurate. The true tone makes adjustments to match the white balance of the lights in the room and ensure screen refection and not too strong for the eyes.

A 120Hz display refresh rate from the promotion display technology is included, this makes the motion content on the screen:

●        Smoother

●        Crisper

And more responsive for:

●        Reading

●        Gaming

●        Movies

●        And more

It has a dynamic, fresh rate and changes depending on what you’re viewing. If you’re watching a movie or playing a game, the refresh rate is 120Hz. If you’re reading a web page or looking at a photo, you need less that 120Hz, it makes the necessary adjustments.

Display feature like other models are:

●        600 nits brightness

●        1.8 percent reflectivity

●        Anti-reflective coating

●        Fingerprint resistance coating

The 12.9-inch model has a resolution of 2732 x 2048 and the 11 – inch model has a resolution of 2388 x 1668. They both have 264 pixel inch like previous models.

A12X Bionic chip

The is a better version compared to the ones included in the iPhones. It’s a 7 – nanometre bionic, which is faster. The bionic chip consists of:

●        Four high performance cores

●        Four efficiency cores

They can all be accessed at the same time because of the new performance controller. The A12x with a single core performance is up to 35 percent faster than the A10x fusion chip in the previous models If all cores are in operation all at once, performance will shoot up to 90 percent.

The seven core GPU produces up to twice the graphic performance for richer AR experiences and console quality graphics when playing games.

Neural engine

Neural engine is built into the A12X and its performance can be up to five trillion per seconds, which allows more to be accomplished in real time. All learning features are powered by the neural engine such as:

●        Photo search.

●        Face ID.

●        Augmented reality experiences.

It was designed for:

●        Faster facial ID recognition.

●        Faster plane detection for augmented reality apps.

●        Speed improvements for another task that uses real time machine learning.

Developers also use the A12X to their advantage because of its improvements through CORE ML, on Apple’s machine learning feature that is useful for the apps.

Cameras

At the back of the iPad sits a 12 – megapixel f/1.8 camera just like iPhone such as XS, XR and XS max. The camera supports:

●        Smart HDR

●        A quad LED true tone flash

●        Wide colour capture

●        Live photos

The optical image stabilisation was removed from the camera and now uses a simple auto image stabilisation. This was necessary because a reworking was needed for bezels reduction. The video feature can record 4K video at 30 or 60 fps and slow-motion video at 1080p at 120fps and 720p at 240 fps.

The camera house at the front is the same 7 – megapixel that can be found in iPhone such as XS, XS max and XR. Portrait mode is supported for capturing images when the main subject is focused with a blurred background with portrait lighting adjustments. It works with Animoji and Memoji in messages and Facetime.

Battery life

The battery lasts for 10 hours at a stretch when:

●        Browsing the web

●        Watching videos

●        Listening to music

This is considered by Apple has all day battery life. Cellular models drop to 9 hours when browsing the web over LTE.

The 11 – inch model has

●        29.37 watt – hour battery and 7,812mAh capacity and

The 12.9 – inch model has

●        36.71-watt hour battery

Conclusion

The iPad pro is at your service in any position you hold it, with an all screen design and loaded with the most advanced technology which makes it a magical piece of glass. You’re able to navigate easily with the new intuitive gesture. The new liquid retina is display from one edge to another and you get a lovely presentation because of the true to life colour and promotion technology.

This cutting edge device provides the benefit of effortless high performance and comfort, thanks to an outstanding innovation. The secret behind this stunning device is the amazing design which provides much functionality with effortless power. The device offers an amazing feeling of comfort and control.
