Sharing Your Location in Messages on iPad
Share Your Location in Real-Time
- In an iMessage conversation:
- Open the Messages app.
- Start a new message or open an existing one.
- Tap the Location button (above the keyboard) or tap the contact’s name at the top and select Share Location or Share My Location.
- Choose a duration: Indefinitely or a specific time.
- Tap Send.
Stop Sharing Your Location
- Open the conversation and:
- Tap the shared location message and select Stop Sharing My Location.
- Tap the contact’s name and select Stop Sharing or Stop Sharing My Location.
Request Someone’s Location
- Open the conversation and:
- Tap the Location button and select Request.
- Send a message asking “Where are you?” and tap Request Location (above the keyboard).
- Tap the contact’s name and select Request Location.
Note: Location sharing and finding people may not be available in all regions. Ensure Location Services is enabled in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Find My.
Sending a Pinned Location (for SMS conversations)
- Open the Messages app.
- Start a new message or open an existing one.
- Tap the Location button.
- Drag the pin to the desired location.
- Tap Send Pin.
Additional Tips:
- To reshare your location in a group conversation after adding new members, simply share your location again.
- To view a shared location, tap the contact’s name at the top of the conversation and view the map.
By following these steps, you can easily share and request locations with your contacts in the Messages app on your iPad.
