- The display is protected by a ceramic shield material made by infusing nano-ceramic crystal into the glass.
- The ceramic crystals were designed to optimise for clarity at the same time maintaining toughness with the display created in conjunction with corning.
- Apple claims that the ceramic shield is the toughest smartphone glass with a dual-ion exchange process to ensure protection against scratches, wear, and tear.
True Depth Camera and Face ID
- The iPhone models use face ID, Apple’s facial recognition which was built into the dynamic island.
- Face ID was designed to unlock the iPhone
- Face ID gives access to third parties-passcode protected apps
- Face ID will confirm app purchases
- Face ID will authenticate apple payments and more
- Face ID works through a set of sensors and cameras
- A Dot projector will project tens of thousands of invisible infra-red dots onto the surface of the skin to create a 3D facula scan that maps the curves and planes of each face with the scan read by infrared camera.
- The iPhone authenticate an identity by using the facial depth map to relay to the A17 chip and then transformed into a mathematical model.
Face ID works perfectly in poor lighting conditions with:
- Hats
- Beards
- Glasses
- Sunglasses
- Scarves
- Masks
- And other accessories that could partially obscure the face

- The lens supports 24-megapixel and 48-megapixel high resolution photos through the photonic engine compared to 12-megapixel and 48 megapixels.
- Apple claims the new 24 mega-pixel setting offers an ultra-high resolution at a reasonable file size.
- The 24 and 48-megapixel phots can be saved in a standard HEIF image file format and are not limited to RAW.
- The main camera can be set to 24mm, 28mm and 35mm focal lengths to better mirror what’s possible with DSLR’s using a computational photography.
- Tapped the different focal length as you snap a picture and view the reflections at different zoom levels.
- The triple lens camera and the different main camera options can be compared to having seven lenses on your pocket as proclaimed by Apple.
