The Ultimate Guide to iPhone 14 Pro

iPhone 14 Pro

Apple has created a new magical way to interact with this phone, it was invented with groundbreaking features designed to save lives. It comes with an innovative 48MP camera for mind blowing detail, all powered by ultimate smartphone chip.

One of the major changes is the True Depth, camera which losses the notch and replace with something called Dynamic Island. It’s a pill shaped cut out at the front of the display, which houses the camera equipment.

It comes in different shapes and sizes using a software which depends on what’s on the screen. The dynamic island was designed to bridge the gap between the hardware and software. It adapts in real time and shows:

  • Alerts
  • Notifications
  • And activities in the space where the notch was housed
  • The dynamic island will show confirmation with:
  • Face ID
  • Map Directions
  • Phone calls
  • Music information

Live activities such as:

  • Sports scores
  • Timers
  • And more

Designed for Durability

  • It’s tougher than any smartphone glass because of the ceramic shield
  • Water Resistance
  • Surgical – grade stainless steel
  • 1 and 6.7 display sizes
  • All in four pro colours
  • Super Retina XDR Display
  • Pro-motion technology was updated

This phone was designed with the user in mind, therefore it has the ability to protect your privacy and put you in control of what you share and who you share your data with.

Meet the new face of the iPhone

This phone introduces the dynamic island, a unique Apple innovation that’s hardware and software and something in between. It bubbles up music, face time and so much more – all without taking you away from what you’re doing.

Always on Display and always Ready

Your lock screen will always be glanceable, in order words, no need to tap to be up to date, if the iPhone isn’t face down or in your pocket, it goes dark to conserve the battery. The battery lasts all day because of new capabilities.

  • Your Photo
  • Your Widgets
  • Your Fonts
  • Your iPhone

You can customise the lock screen as you please in many unique ways with IOS 16, layer a photo to make it pop and track your activity rings, and see live updates from your favourite apps. You can decide with the App tracking transparency, which allows you to decide which apps are allowed to track your activities.

The display is up to 2x brighter in the sun.

Design

  • The resolution for the 6.1-inch iPhone Pro is 2556 x 1179 by 460 pixels per inch.
  • The resolution for the 6.7-inch iPhone Max is 2796 x 1179 by 460 pixels per inch
  • The wide colour support provides, vivid true-life colours
  • True tone matches the white balance of the display to the ambient lighting of the room
  • A paper like viewing experience which is less straining on the eyes.
  • A finger-print resistance oleophobic coating to support haptic touch

The same flat-sided design with square off edges was used to design this model which was also used to design the 13 models. The iPhone models come with an all-glass front and textured mate glass back which fits a frame manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel.

Display

The super retina XDR display now reaches a peak of 2,000 nits outdoors in bright sunny days. This is as twice as bright as before and the highest peak brightness of any smartphone, the text jumps straight right off the screen.

There’s a big boost to the photos and HDR videos – up to 1,600 nits’ peak brightness. This puts the iPhone on the same level as the:

  • Pro Display XDR
  • Movies
  • Shows
  • And even films

All the above looks truer to life than ever.

There are variable fresh rates, which is possible with the promotion technology from 10 to 120 times per seconds. It smoothly and intelligently ramps up when you need exceptional graphics performance, it ramps down to save power when you don’t.

Emergency SOS via Satellite

There’s nothing to worry about even if you’re off the grid, if you don’t have a WI-FI or mobile service, you can text the emergency services over the satellite.

How is it Possible to communicate with Satellite?

Satellites are moving targets with low bandwidth; it could take minutes for messages to get through. All seconds and minute counts, the iPhone will front loads some questions to assess your situation – just tap to respond. It will reveal where to point to connect with the satellite.

Once you are connected the iPhone will automatically send your answers, location, medical ID (If set up) and battery level to a call handler.

Satellites move at a rapid rate through the space, therefore you must be outdoors with a clear view of the sky. The phone will show you where to point to connect and avoid obstruction such as mountain and heavy foliage.

An infrastructure of Innovation

The iPhone 14 antennas can connect to satellite frequency because of its designed components and software. A compressed algorithm will make text messages smaller if the bandwidth is low therefore speeding up communication.

On the ground your text message will be route through a complex infrastructure to the emergency service providers although not all accept text messages. There’s an emergency relay centre set up with an Apple specialist who will call on your behalf for those that don’t accept text messages.

Let friends know how remote you go – If you go on an adventure without a mobile service, “Find” My can be used to share your location via satellite so that friends and family can locate you.

Crash detection will help you to call for help if you can’t – iPhone 14 is able to detect your location if you’re involved in an accident, then call 999 and informed your emergency contacts.

How iPhone hears, fears and measure a crash

Sudden speed shifts

  • A new high – G force accelerometer senses extreme accelerations or decelerations of up to 256 Gs.
  • Cabin pressure changes – The barometer can detect pressure changes caused by deploying airbags
  • Abrupt changes in direction – A high dynamic range of gyroscope monitors drastic changes in a car’s orientation.
  • Loud sound levels of impact – As you drive, the microphone will identify the extreme sound levels of a collision, all processing is done on your phone to protect your privacy.
  • Laboratory crash tests – An advanced motion algorithm was developed by performing head – on, rear end, side impact and rollover crash tests.
  • Real – world crash data
  • Public crash data from accidents are used to make crash detection as accurate as possible

The Pro camera system – it gets massively Pro. Introducing all the new camera with an advanced quad – pixel sensor. There’s up to 4x the resolution for jaw dropping cropping.

This model will shoot at a full 48MOP with Pro-Raw in other words it will produce professional pictures. Shakes and blurs are reduced by the second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilisation.

The iPhone 14 Pro raises the bar for what 48 megapixels can do – delivering 4x the resolution in Pro-RAW for mind blowing detail in very crop – 65% larger sensor compared to iPhone 13 Pro.

The camera adapts to your shot because the quad pixel sensor on the camera maximises the use of the 48 megapixels. A photographer will want to optimise photos for light capture, so the new sensor, groups four pixels together into one large quad pixel. It gathers 4x lighter and produces spectacular photos at a practical 12MP size.

It’s very easy to optimise for details because the sensor will leverage each individual pixel, thereby providing more creative options for shooting and editing in Pro workflows. To get the best out of the detail and flexibility shoots in Pro-RAW at 48MP resolution, there’s a new learning model that delivers sharper images and less noise in unprecedented detail. Photos can be reframed while still retaining beautiful resolutions.

The Picture of Versatility

This new Pro camera system adds a 2x optical-quality telephoto to its zoom range, this puts tons of frame flexibility at your fingertips.

The quad-pixel sensor will allow you to go beyond the three fixed lenses of the Pro camera system. This will create an additional 2x Telephoto which expands your zooms options:

  • 5x
  • 1x
  • 2x
  • 3x

The new telephoto uses the middle 12 megapixels of the quad-pixel sensor to deliver full resolution photos and 4K videos with no digital zoom.

It also works in portrait mode, time lapse and pano, this gives you gorgeous close-up photos and videos. The popular focal length and great resolution 2x is the perfect framing choice for portrait mode.

You get more detail, even with less light – this is superb

The larger sensor captures more light dramatically by pushing the limit of low-light photography.

There’s an all-new photonic engine which is the game changing image pipeline. It allows deep fusion that merges the best pixels from multiple exposures into one phenomenal photo which happens earlier in the process on uncompressed images.

This helps to preserve more data to deliver brighter, more lifelike colours and beautifully detailed texture in less light than ever.

The new adaptive true tone flash adjusts the pattern and intensity of nine LEDs depending on the focal length of the photo, so your subject always appears in the best light.

A caveat – if an app requests an access to your photos, iPhone allows you to decide if the access should be granted or not, furthermore you could grant access to one photo or a group and not your whole library.

24 breathtaking frames per seconds – cinematic mode now shoots at 4K HDR fps – this is the film industry standard.

Edit with pro footage in 4K at 24 or 30 fps seamlessly, you can edit the depth effect after capture.

Shaky action shot? Fix it in a pie

Video

Whether you’re filming from an off road SUV or running alongside your SUV or running alongside your subject. Action mode is excellent for smooth handheld videos – no gimbal required. This has been labelled as the only smartphone in the world that allows you to:

  • Shoot
  • View, Edit
  • Share in ProRes or Dolby Vision

A camera in a class by it self

The camera will deliver your sharpest, most colourful close up and group shots, all thanks to the new True Depth front camera designed with auto focus and a larger aperture.

On the count of three, say “we” the True Depth, camera now has a feature that helps to focus automatically on multiple subjects at once, all your selfies – from stunning close ups to groups shots – look their sharpest.

The larger aperture gives room for more light thereby capturing a brighter colour and producing a finer detail in low light environments.

Other Camera Features

  • Adaptive True Tone Flash – The flash was redesigned with an array of nine LEDs which changes pattern based on the focal length of the lens. Its 3 x better for ultra-wide shots and up to 2x brighter on telephoto.
  • Burst mode – You can capture a series of images at once, this is great for high action shots.
  • Panorama – Captures panorama shots of up to 63 megapixels
  • Deep Fusion – Produces a great image with texture and detail in poor lighting conditions, it works even earlier with a photonic engine to capture image processing in iPhone 14 models.
  • Portrait mode – With a blur background the subject of the photo comes with a sharp focus
  • Smart HDR 4 – Produces the best image with up to four people in a short, optimising the contrast, lighting and even skin tone for each person so that everyone looks great.
  • Cinematic Mode – This is available in 4K 30 fps and 4K at 24 fps
  • Macro Photography – This is ideal for macro photos because the ultra-wide camera on the phone can focus at 2cm.
  • Night Mode – You can aggregate a series of images taken over a few seconds for photography in an extremely poor lighting environment. The LiDAR scanner and all three lenses enables the night mode to work in portrait mode.

Pro-Motion

These Pro-Motion refresh rates are powered by the updated low-power display backlighting in the iPhone 14 models which are the same as the ones in the iPhone 13 models. This current model offers an adaptive refresh rate, which ranges from 1Hz to 120Hz compared to the previous models which was 10Hz to 120Hz.

Refresh rates occurs based on what’s on the screen, if you’re reading through a website, the refresh rate will be lower. You’ll experience a higher 120Hz rate which will provide a smoother and more responsive experience if you are:

  • Playing a game
  • Watching a movie
  • Scrolling through a content
